Def Leppard @ Comcast Center, Mansfield
Just got home from seeing the Def Leppard at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. I have looked forward to this particular show all summer long. I had wanted to see them last summer and opted not to and had been regretting it ever since. Every time I see Def Leppard I enjoy them but this time was something a little extra special. They had much to celebrate as it is the 30th Anniversary of Guitarist Phil Collin being in the band, and the 25th anniversary of the Hysteria Album.
The set list was amazing from the more recent Undefeated to the classics like Foolin', Photograph, the fitting Saturday Night, Rocket, Women, Poor Some Sugar on me and the list goes on and on. A highlight for me was when half way through the show the entire band gathered center stage to perform an accoustic set of their ballads which included the Where does love go when it dies, which they have never performed live before this Rock of Ages Tour. I also enjoyed the pictures up on the screen during their performance of Photograph. They featured all members of the band throughout their careers which was fun to see.
Joe Elliott's vocals were strong, Phil Collin is totally jacked, you can tell that man works out everyday and of course what can I say about our favorite one armed drummer Rick Allen? He Rocks. When he walked out on stage for his part in the acoustic medley the crowd went wild. He has got to be the most admired drummer I know. Losing his arm in a tragic car accident and not giving up what he loves to do, just learning how to do it differently, well, if that's not a role model, I don't know what is.
I'm not sure what was up with the bling though? Joe Elliotts mic stand was totally bedazzled as was his t-shirt along with Rick Savage's shirt. Maybe they stole it from Taylor Swift. But hey, they rocked it out, it's all good. I'm partial to the bling myself.
They closed out the show with Rock of Ages and my only disappointment was that Rock of Ages was the only encore song, it would have been nice to have another.
If it's ever crossed your mind to check them out GO. You won't be disappointed. These 5 Brits will give you a high energy show that you won't soon forget.
